Przegląd

Delhi to wielka stolica o wielu centrach, gdzie największym błędem podróżnym jest gromadzenie zbyt wielu przejazdów. Traktuj je jako osobne strefy, a wyjazd staje się dużo łatwiejszy, szybszy i bardziej satysfakcjonujący.

Historia

Delhi's site has been settled for millennia, and its formal history is usually told as seven successive cities: Lal Kot and Mehrauli in the eleventh and twelfth centuries, Siri under the Khaljis, then Tughlaqabad, Firozabad, Dinpanah, and finally Shahjahanabad — the Mughal capital begun in 1639, whose Red Fort and Jama Masjid still stand. Each was built near rather than on its predecessor, which is why the ruins of all of them survive across the modern city instead of underneath it. The British moved their capital here from Calcutta in 1911 and built a planned city alongside the old one; independence was declared from the Red Fort's ramparts in 1947, and Partition brought a large influx of Punjabi Hindu and Sikh families whose arrival reshaped the city's demography, its commerce and its cooking.

Kultura

Delhi's food identity is Punjabi-Mughlai and it is specific: the tandoor-based North Indian restaurant canon was codified here after Partition, and butter chicken and dal makhani were invented in a Daryaganj kitchen in the 1950s. The old city holds the century-old Mughlai institutions and the paratha lane; south Delhi holds the modern reinvention. Street food peaks with chole bhature in the morning, chaat through the day, and the winter-only milk-foam sweet daulat ki chaat in December and January. Festiwale: Diwali (October or November): the city lights up with diyas and fireworks, and the old-city markets are at their most atmospheric, Holi (March): most vivid in residential colonies; many hotels run their own rooftop celebrations for guests, Eid-ul-Fitr: morning prayers at the Jama Masjid draw enormous crowds, and the surrounding lanes fill with festival sweets, Winter arts season (roughly December to March): the city's museums, galleries and performance venues run their heaviest programme in the comfortable months. Muzea: Crafts Museum — a living-craft complex with artisans working in weaving, pottery and metal from across the country, Sanskriti Kendra and the private museums of south Delhi — textiles, terracotta and everyday objects, Sulabh International Museum of Toilets — genuinely serious social history behind an unlikely name.

Informacje praktyczne

Bezpieczeństwo: Stosuj standardowe miejskie środki ostrożności na zatłoczonych bazarach i węzłach przesiadkowych. Pilnuj telefonu i portfela w wąskich uliczkach, a wieczorem korzystaj z zarejestrowanych przewozów. Język: Hindi i angielski są szeroko używane w kontekstach turystycznych, biznesowych i administracyjnych. Waluta: INR.

Jeśli lądujesz w DEL i mieszkasz w pobliżu centralnych przesiadek, Airport Express to zwykle najszybszy pierwszy ruch w głąb miasta. Październik-marzec to zazwyczaj najwygodniejsza pora roku na pełne dni na świeżym powietrzu.

Stare Delhi — planowanie dziedzictwa o wysokiej gęstości

Połącz Czerwony Fort, Jama Masjid i Chandni Chowk w jeden zwarty blok i zachowaj realistyczne oczekiwania: tłumy, wąskie uliczki i intensywne wrażenia zmysłowe. Zacznij wcześnie, by zmniejszyć upał i ścisk.

Zabytki centrum i południa, w grupach

Grobowiec Humajuna, Ogrody Lodhich i Qutub Minar grupuj według geografii, nie według list popularności. To skraca czas przejazdu i czyni harmonogram dnia realistycznym.

Sekwencja jedzenia i dzielnic

Wiąż plany kulinarne z atrakcjami w pobliżu zamiast ścigać restauracje przez całe miasto. Stare Delhi, Connaught Place i korytarze południa unoszą każdy pełny program wieczorny.

Dni spotkań i dokumentów

Jeśli podróż obejmuje wywiady wizowe lub umówione spotkania konsularne, traktuj ten dzień jako mało skomplikowany plan z marginesem na transport, a nie nakładaj na niego ciężkiego zwiedzania.

Często zadawane pytania

How many days does Delhi need?

Three at a minimum, and they group naturally by layer: one for Old Delhi and the Red Fort, one for Humayun's Tomb and the Nizamuddin quarter with a museum or the Lodhi-era tombs, and one for the Qutub complex and the southern monuments. A fourth day buys the food properly and the smaller sites — the stepwell, Safdarjung, a market morning — which are what people end up remembering. The planned capital district is a further half-day and has its own guide.

What is the difference between Delhi and New Delhi?

New Delhi is a district within the metropolis rather than a synonym for it: the capital laid out by the British from 1911, with its ceremonial avenues, government buildings and diplomatic enclave. Delhi is everything — the Mughal old city, the Sultanate ruins in the south, the modern suburbs and the whole conurbation of some 32 million people. For sightseeing they read as one city; for planning, the monuments and the institutions sit in different halves of the map.

When is the best time to visit Delhi?

February, March and October are the sweet spot — warm, clear and outside both the summer extremes and the worst of the winter air-quality season. November to January is pleasant for temperature but includes the weeks when pollution peaks, so check a live air-quality reading before committing. April to June is severely hot, and the monsoon from July into September breaks the heat but brings humidity and downpours.

Is the Delhi Metro genuinely usable for visitors?

Yes, and it is the single thing that makes the city manageable. It is clean, air-conditioned, extensive, signed in English, and connects the old city, the southern monuments, the capital district and the airport. Buy a stored-value card on arrival, use ride-hailing for the last mile, and treat the traffic peaks as the reason the metro exists. Allow a couple of minutes for the security check at each station.

Which Delhi monument should I see if I only see one?

Humayun's Tomb. It is the prototype the Taj Mahal refined, its garden setting is intact, it is rarely as crowded as the Red Fort, and the restored Sunder Nursery next door turns a monument visit into a genuinely pleasant morning. If you want the living city rather than the architecture, go instead to Chandni Chowk by cycle rickshaw and eat your way along it.
