Overview

Lauterach is a Vorarlberg market town directly east of Bregenz, on the floor of the Rhine valley near the Lake Constance shore. Despite a population of just 10,000 it is one of Austria's most industry-dense communities, hosting global engineering firms such as Doppelmayr (cable cars), Meusburger and Tridonic — and a quiet residential base from which the Rhine delta nature reserve and Bregenz lakeside are minutes away.

Travel

Lauterach is a Vorarlberg market town directly east of Bregenz, on the flat floor of the Rhine valley between Lake Constance and the foothills of the Bregenzerwald. The town has a population of around ten thousand but an unusually high industrial concentration for its size: the Doppelmayr group (the world's largest cable-car manufacturer), the Meusburger mould-making works and Tridonic lighting all have headquarters or major plants here, and the wider Lauterach industrial area is one of the most productive of the Vorarlberg Rhine valley. For travellers it is a quiet, low-cost residential base from which the Bregenz lakefront, the Rhine delta nature reserve and the wider Bregenzerwald are all minutes away.

Lauterach is one of the densest manufacturing communities in western Austria. The Doppelmayr group, whose cable cars serve mountains from Whistler to Zermatt to the Karakoram, has its global headquarters here; Meusburger and Tridonic anchor a second tier of precision engineering and industrial lighting. Public guided plant tours are limited but the scale of the modern industrial estates is visible from the local road network.
