Introduction
Gamprin is an Unterland municipality on the western spur of the Eschnerberg, made up of the village of Gamprin and the hamlet of Bendern on the Rhine, which forms its border with Switzerland.
Overview
Gamprin is small, green and good for an active half-day. The waymarked Eschnerberg ridge walk and a stage of the Liechtenstein Trail pass through, the Kratzerawald forest has a mountain-bike skills trail and a fitness course, and the Rhine at Bendern carries the cycle route along the whole country. In summer, the Grossabünt bathing lake in the village is the place to cool off.
Discover Gamprin
Walking the Eschnerberg
The Historischer Höhenweg follows the whole Eschnerberg ridge through Gamprin and the neighbouring Unterland villages, well waymarked and lined with information boards — each with a QR code and a map — on archaeological sites, field names, legends and nature. The Liechtenstein Trail, 75 kilometres through all eleven municipalities, crosses the municipality too. Bendern's church hill above the Rhine, home to the Liechtenstein-Institut, sits close to both routes.
Kratzerawald: bikes and a fitness trail
In the Kratzerawald forest, the Bike-Fun-Kratzera trail is a mountain-bike skills course built from wood, stone and earth along the existing forest tracks, with obstacles at different levels — made for children and beginners, and helmets are compulsory. The same forest has a Vitaparcours fitness trail with exercise stations for strength, stamina and mobility.
The Rhine at Bendern
Bendern lies on the Rhine, and a road bridge crosses here to Haag on the Swiss bank. The dike carries the long-distance Rhine cycle route, so Gamprin is an easy stop on a ride from Vaduz to Ruggell, and the open border means you can loop back along the Swiss side. Up in the village of Gamprin, the Grossabünt bathing lake is the place for a swim after the ride.
