Mauritius Embassy in Berlin

Embassy of Mauritius in Berlin, Germany

Overview

The Embassy of the Republic of Mauritius in Berlin on Katharinenstraße is the principal Mauritian diplomatic mission in Europe, accredited to Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Turkey. Chargé d'affaires a.i. Subhas Gujadhur heads the mission. Mauritius — the Indian Ocean island nation east of Madagascar, renowned for its turquoise lagoons, coral reefs, sugarcane plantations, and multicultural population blending Indian, African, Chinese, and European heritage — is one of the most popular long-haul tropical destinations for European travellers. The Berlin embassy handles visa applications, passport services, and document authentication for Mauritian nationals across its accredited countries. For Austrian residents, this is the nearest embassy for Mauritian consular matters, complemented by an honorary consulate in Vienna. Mauritius attracts a significant number of German-speaking tourists annually, with direct and one-stop flights from Frankfurt, Munich, and Vienna via Paris, Dubai, or Istanbul. The embassy also maintains a network of four honorary consulates across Germany — in Ratingen (NRW), Hamburg, Munich, and Stuttgart.

Visa Services

The consular section (consular@mauritius-embassy.de) handles visa applications Monday to Friday 09:00–15:30 by appointment. Mauritius allows visa-free entry for citizens of most European countries, including Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, for stays up to 90 days. For longer stays or work permits, the embassy processes the relevant applications. A valid passport (minimum 6 months validity), return ticket, and proof of accommodation are required at entry.

Consular Services

The embassy provides full consular services to Mauritian nationals in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Turkey: passport issuance and renewal, civil registration, document legalisation, and emergency assistance. Mr. V. Bowan serves as Consul based in Berlin.

Service Area

Accredited to Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Turkey. An honorary consulate in Vienna serves as a local relay for Austrian residents. Four honorary consulates in Germany (Ratingen, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart) provide regional access across the federal states.
