The move puts one of Bangkok's busiest European missions in the middle of the city's transit web, steps from the Si Lom-Sala Daeng interchange. The embassy's other constituency is one of Thailand's most established Western communities: Dutch retirees along the Gulf coast, entrepreneurs and engineers in Bangkok and the Eastern Seaboard, and hundreds of thousands of Dutch holidaymakers a year, all served through strictly appointment-based consular counters.

Thai citizens and other visa-required nationals resident in Thailand apply for Netherlands Schengen visas — tourism, family visits, business — with the embassy as the deciding authority; applications are lodged through the Netherlands' appointed external visa application centres in Thailand, not at the embassy itself. Long-stay purposes (work, study, family reunification) run through the MVV/long-stay procedures of the Dutch immigration authorities. Start early: appointment slots at the application centres tighten before European summer and the December holidays, and supporting documents — bank statements, employment letters, sponsorship or invitation papers — must match the visa purpose exactly.
