Tikveš Winery, headquartered in Kavadarci, was founded in the mid-twentieth century and expanded over subsequent decades into the region's largest producer by a considerable margin — an institutional scale that genuinely shaped Tikveš's identity as North Macedonia's wine heartland rather than one option among several equal producers. Its cellars and production facilities reflect that history directly, offering a genuinely different visitor experience from the valley's smaller, more boutique operations, with tastings covering the same indigenous grapes — Vranec, Kratošija, Temjanika and Smederevka — at production scale.

Just outside Kavadarci, Lake Tikveš is a large artificial reservoir formed by a dam on the Crna River — a genuine boating and fishing destination rather than pure scenery, and a side of the wine region most tasting-focused day trips from Skopje never reach. The lake's scale and setting among the surrounding hills make it a real complement to a Kavadarci base, worth combining with a winery visit rather than treating the town purely as a wine stop.

South of Kavadarci, Kožuf Mountain holds a newer, considerably less-developed ski area than the country's better-known resorts at Mavrovo and Popova Šapka — built more recently and drawing a smaller, quieter crowd. For visitors who've already done the established slopes elsewhere in the country, Kožuf offers a genuine alternative: newer infrastructure, fewer crowds, and a mountain backdrop directly adjacent to the Tikveš wine country below.
