Frequently asked questions
Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Peru?
Not for tourism or business if they hold a qualifying document. Since 27 March 2017 Indian nationals with an ordinary passport are exempt from the Peruvian temporary visa (tourist or business category) when they hold a visa valid for at least six months issued by the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia or a Schengen country, or permanent residence in one of those countries. The stay cannot exceed 180 calendar days in a year and its length is set at the port of entry. Indian travellers without such a document apply at the Consular Section in Vasant Vihar; work, study, religious, investor and immigrant statuses are handled with Peru's migration authority.
Does the Delhi Embassy cover Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka or the Maldives?
Yes. The Peruvian Embassy in New Delhi has concurrent accreditation to the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the Republic of Maldives, the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in addition to the host country India. Honorary consuls in Kathmandu and Dhaka are local contact points for Nepal and Bangladesh; consular acts are completed in Delhi.
Are there Peruvian consular offices elsewhere in India?
Yes — Peru runs honorary consulates in Mumbai (Ador House, K. Dubash Marg), Kolkata (Shakespeare Sarani), Bangalore (Koramangala) and Chennai (Eldams Road, Teynampet). They are first points of contact for the Peruvian community and for general enquiries in their regions; passports, DNI, civil-registry and visa acts are completed by the Consular Section of the Embassy in New Delhi.
What is the embassy schedule?
The Embassy and its Consular Section attend Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00. The Consular Section is reached on +91 11 4616 3308 or consular@embassyperuindia.in, the embassy switchboard on +91 11 4616 3333; the consulate also announces periodic Saturday attention days for Peruvian citizens.
I am a Peruvian citizen in India — where do I get consular services?
Peruvian citizens resident in India, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Nepal or Sri Lanka are served by the Consular Section at D-2/5 Vasant Vihar for DNI and passports, civil registration, notarial acts, voter registration for Peruvian elections abroad, document legalisation and certificates. The honorary consuls in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Kathmandu and Dhaka are local first contacts. The emergency mobile is +91 98183 42780.
Do I need a visa to transit through Peru?
Since 1 February 2025 Peru requires a transit visa from foreign nationals who need to pass through Peruvian territory to a third country, unless they are exempt from the visa requirement altogether. It is applied for in advance at the Consular Section with a passport valid for at least six months, the DGC-005 application form, a photograph, the consular fee, and on request a round-trip ticket showing the onward destination and proof of admissibility there; the visa is valid six months from issue for the first entry.
