Overview

The Colombian Embassy in New Delhi covers the widest South Asian remit of any Latin American post in the region: India plus, under Decree 134 of 5 February 2019, Bhutan, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, with honorary consulates in Mumbai, Bangalore, Kathmandu and Dhaka as local contact points. For Indian travellers the practical headline is the entry rule: an Indian passport holder with a valid US or Schengen visa good for more than 180 days at arrival enters Colombia without a Colombian visa, and everyone else applies online — no embassy visit needed to lodge the file.

Visa Services

Indian passport holders with a valid United States visa (other than a US transit visa) or a valid Schengen visa may enter Colombia without a Colombian visa, provided that document is valid for more than 180 days on the date of arrival in Colombia. Indian travellers without such a visa apply for a Colombian visa online through the Cancillería's visa portal, where every visa type and its requirements are listed; the fee is paid online by card or, by arrangement with the Consulate, by bank transfer, and processing takes between 10 and 30 days. Tourist, business, student and work categories all run through the same online system, with the Delhi consulate examining files from India and the six concurrent countries. The consulate advises applicants to deal directly with the official system and not through intermediaries.

Consular Services

Colombian citizens resident in India, Bhutan, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh or Afghanistan are served for passport renewal and re-issue, lost-passport replacement, civil registration of births, marriages and deaths, voter registration for Colombian elections abroad, document apostille and legalisation, and certificates required for use in India. Honorary consulates in Mumbai, Bangalore, Kathmandu and Dhaka provide a first point of contact in their cities; substantive cases are handled by the consulate in Delhi. The emergency line reserved for Colombian citizens is +91 74282 66411.

Trade & Export Support

India–Colombia trade has expanded substantially in the past decade and is now diversified across pharmaceuticals, motorcycles, IT services and renewable energy alongside the traditional flows of Colombian coffee, coal and crude oil to India. Colombian exports concentrate on coffee, coke and semi-coke of coal, ferronickel and crude petroleum; Indian exports to Colombia include motor vehicles (motorcycles especially, where Indian brands hold substantial market share), pharmaceuticals, organic chemicals, polyester yarn and engineering goods. The Embassy's commercial section coordinates with ProColombia for sector outreach in India and supports Colombian exporters with Indian regulatory navigation.

Investment Opportunities

Colombian inbound investment promotion through this Embassy targets the sectors where Indian capital is most active: generic pharmaceuticals manufacturing in Colombia, IT services partnerships, renewable energy projects on the Caribbean coast and in the Andean cordillera, and the emerging agro-industrial export pipeline. Indian institutional investors and companies considering Colombian exposure engage the Embassy for ProColombia briefings and regional introductions.

Business Support

The Embassy maintains operational contact with the Cámara Colombo-India and with Indian counterpart chambers including CII and FICCI for trade-fair coordination, B2B matchmaking, sector delegations and the day-to-day commercial calendar between the two markets.

Cultural & Educational Programs

Cultural and educational programming includes presentations of Cumbia, Vallenato and Salsa, Colombian cinema cycles at Indian film festivals, the literary heritage of Gabriel García Márquez as a Colombian cultural anchor in India (his work is widely taught in Indian universities), Spanish-language teaching cooperation with Indian universities and the Instituto Caro y Cuervo, postgraduate scholarship programmes at Colombian universities for Indian students, and academic exchange agreements with ICCR.

Frequently asked questions

Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Colombia?

Not if they hold a valid US or Schengen visa. Indian nationals with a valid United States visa (other than a US transit visa) or a valid Schengen visa may enter Colombia without a Colombian visa, as long as that document is valid for more than 180 days on the date of arrival. Indian travellers without such a visa apply for a Colombian visa online through the Cancillería's visa portal; processing takes between 10 and 30 days and the fee is paid online by card or, by arrangement, by bank transfer.

Does the Delhi Embassy cover Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Maldives or Afghanistan?

Yes — all six. Under Colombian Decree 134 of 5 February 2019 the Embassy in New Delhi is concurrently accredited to the Kingdom of Bhutan, the Republic of Maldives, the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Afghanistan. Honorary consulates in Kathmandu and Dhaka are local contact points for Nepal and Bangladesh; substantive cases are handled in Delhi.

What are the working hours and is there a lunch break?

Yes — the consulate splits the day into two sessions. It is open Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 13:00 in the morning and reopens from 14:30 to 17:00 in the afternoon, with a closure between the two sessions. Visa applications do not require a visit at all: they are lodged online.

Is there a Colombian consulate elsewhere in India or in the region?

The Embassy and its consulate in New Delhi are Colombia's only career posts in the jurisdiction, but honorary consulates operate in Mumbai and Bangalore within India, and in Kathmandu (Nepal) and Dhaka (Bangladesh). They are first points of contact for Colombian citizens and general enquiries; visa files and consular acts are processed by the Delhi consulate and the online portals.

I am a Colombian citizen living in India — what services does the Embassy provide?

Colombian citizens resident across the seven-country jurisdiction are served for passport renewal and re-issue, lost-passport replacement, civil registration of births, marriages and deaths, voter registration for Colombian elections abroad, document apostille and legalisation, and certificates required for use in India. The consulate attends Monday to Friday 09:00–13:00 and 14:30–17:00; emergencies for Colombian citizens go to +91 74282 66411.

How is the Colombian visa fee paid from India?

Through the online application system, by credit card or the system's online payment platform. Applicants who cannot pay online contact the consulate in Delhi to arrange payment by bank transfer. The consulate publishes the official fees in the system and advises applicants not to use intermediaries who quote other prices.
