Frequently asked questions
Do Dutch passport holders need a visa for Thailand?
Not for stays of up to 60 days — tourism, family visits, and short business trips fall under Thailand's visa exemption for Netherlands passports. Every traveller must still register the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online within three days before arrival. Working, studying, retiring, or staying longer requires an e-Visa applied for online before departure.
How do residents of the Netherlands apply for a Thai long-stay visa?
Entirely online through the official Thai e-Visa portal, selecting the Netherlands as country of residence — applications are then processed under the embassy in The Hague. Choose the category that fits (Non-Immigrant B for work, ED for study, O for family or retirement, or the Destination Thailand Visa for remote workers), upload documents digitally, and pay the non-refundable fee online.
What is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)?
A free online arrival registration that every foreign traveller — visa-exempt or not — completes within three days before arriving in Thailand. It replaced the paper arrival card and is not a visa: it neither grants nor extends any right of stay.
Does the Thai embassy in The Hague also cover Belgium?
No. The Hague embassy's remit is the Netherlands only — Thai representation for Belgium and Luxembourg runs through the Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels. Residents of the Netherlands, wherever their nationality, deal with The Hague for Thai visa and consular matters.
How do Thai nationals in the Netherlands renew a passport or get emergency help?
The consular section at Laan Copes van Cattenburch 123 handles Thai passports, legalisation, and civil registration — contact thehague@thaiembassy.nl or +31 70 345 0766 during office hours, 09:30 to 17:00 on working days. In an acute emergency, Thai nationals can call the 24-hour duty line +31 6 2366 9832.
