Overview
South Korean passport holders currently enter China without a visa for stays of up to 30 days — China's unilateral visa-free policy has covered the Republic of Korea since November 2024 and is in force through 31 December 2026, so most tourism, business, and family trips need no embassy contact at all. The embassy itself sits on the Namsan slope of Jung-gu, a short walk from Myeongdong Station, and matters mainly for stays beyond 30 days, work and study plans, and the large Chinese community living in Korea.
Visa Services
Visa applications for purposes the 30-day visa-free policy does not cover — work (Z), study (X), family reunion (Q), journalist and crew visas, and any stay over 30 days — are not lodged at the embassy counter but through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) on the 17th floor of Namsan Square, 173 Toegye-ro, Jung-gu, with online pre-filing at visaforchina.cn. Check the current visa-free status before planning around it: the policy is published with an explicit end date and China has adjusted its coverage in increments.
Consular Services
The consular section serves Chinese nationals in South Korea — one of the largest Chinese overseas communities, spanning long-settled residents, company staff, and tens of thousands of students at Korean universities — with passport renewals, notarizations, and authentications. Consular enquiries go to seoul@csm.mfa.gov.cn; counter hours run weekday mornings and afternoons (09:00–12:00, 13:30–17:00).
Trade & Export Support
China is South Korea's largest trading partner, and the bilateral goods flow — semiconductors, displays, batteries, machinery, chemicals — is among the world's biggest two-way trade relationships. The embassy's economic and commercial section engages on trade policy and market-access questions alongside the China-Korea Free Trade Agreement framework in force since 2015.
Investment Opportunities
Investment runs both directions: Korean manufacturers hold major positions in Chinese production bases, while Chinese companies invest in Korean technology, gaming, and consumer sectors. The embassy's economic section is the first port of call for policy-level questions on these flows.
Business Support
Korean companies operating in or exporting to China work primarily through KOTRA's China network and the FTA's institutional channels; the embassy's commercial section is the policy-level contact point on the Chinese side, including for exhibitions and province-level trade delegations that route through Seoul.
Cultural & Educational Programs
The China Cultural Center in Seoul — one of the network of official Chinese cultural centers abroad — runs language courses, exhibitions, and performance programmes, and the embassy's education section supports the large two-way student exchange: Chinese students are the biggest international group at Korean universities, and Korean students study across China in return.

Special Notes
The 30-day visa-free entry for South Korean passports covers tourism, business, family visits, exchange, and transit — it does not cover employment or study, and it is a dated policy (currently through 31 December 2026), so confirm it is still in force before relying on it. Staying beyond 30 days after a visa-free entry requires applying to China's exit-and-entry authorities in-country for a stay permit — plan longer trips with the right visa from the start instead.
