Overview

The Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Vienna serves as the principal diplomatic mission representing Croatia in Austria. Located on Rennweg in Vienna's 3rd district (Landstraße), the embassy maintains comprehensive diplomatic relations between Croatia and Austria, two neighboring countries with deep historical connections and strong contemporary ties within the European Union. The embassy operates a separate Consular Section at Operngasse 20b in Vienna's 4th district for consular services. Croatia and Austria share significant bilateral relations in trade, investment, tourism, culture, and regional cooperation, with Austria being one of Croatia's most important economic partners and sources of tourism. The current Ambassador is Daniel Glunčić. The embassy coordinates with the substantial Croatian diaspora community in Austria and promotes Croatian interests, culture, and economic opportunities.

Visa Services

As both Croatia and Austria are members of the European Union and participate in the Schengen Area, Austrian citizens do not require visas to enter, travel, or reside in Croatia. Austrian nationals enjoy complete freedom of movement under EU regulations and can travel, live, and work in Croatia without any visa or permit requirements. The embassy and its Consular Section provide information about residency registration and documentation for Austrian citizens planning extended stays in Croatia. For third-country nationals residing in Austria who require visas to visit Croatia, the Consular Section processes Schengen visa applications following common EU visa procedures. Applicants must submit a completed application form, valid passport with adequate validity, biometric passport photographs, travel health insurance with minimum €30,000 coverage, confirmed accommodation and travel itinerary in Croatia, and proof of financial means. Consular appointments for visa applications should be scheduled in advance.

Consular Services

The Consular Section at Operngasse 20b provides comprehensive consular services for Croatian nationals residing in or visiting Austria. Services include passport issuance and renewal for Croatian citizens, national identity card (osobna iskaznica) processing, birth registration for children born in Austria to Croatian parents, civil status registration including marriages and deaths, document legalization and apostille services, notarial services including powers of attorney and statutory declarations, certification of documents and signatures, and emergency assistance for Croatian nationals in distress. The Consular Section assists with consular registration for Croatian citizens living in Austria, electoral registration for voting from abroad, and coordination with Austrian authorities. Consular office hours are more limited than general embassy hours: Monday, Tuesday, Friday 8:00-12:00; Thursday 8:00-12:00 and 14:00-16:00. An emergency consular hotline (+43 676 842 500 554) is available outside office hours.

The Consular Section is at a separate location: Operngasse 20b (1040 Vienna, 4th district) with more limited hours: Monday, Tuesday, Friday 8:00-12:00; Thursday 8:00-12:00 and 14:00-16:00.
