Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Rome

Overview

The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Rome is the UAE's diplomatic mission to Italy, processing visa applications for Italian residents and providing consular services to Emirati nationals in Italy.

Visa Services

The UAE's visa system is relatively straightforward for Western travellers: a free visa is stamped directly into the passport on arrival at the airport — no advance application, no fee, no online form. US citizens get 30 days, UK citizens 90 days within a 180-day period, usable consecutively or split across multiple entries. Conditions: a passport valid at least six months beyond the entry date and a return or onward ticket. Passports with an X gender marker are rejected — the UAE accepts only M or F. Those wishing to extend their stay can apply to immigration authorities: in Dubai at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, in other emirates at the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship. Extensions are granted at the authorities' discretion and are not guaranteed. Overstay penalties increase daily and can reach significant amounts. Travellers intending to work, study, or reside long-term must obtain the appropriate visa before departure — tourist entry is not sufficient.

Consular Services

The embassy provides passport and travel document services, civil registration, document attestation and legalization, and emergency consular assistance for Emirati nationals in Italy.

Trade & Export Support

The UAE and Italy maintain a substantial trade relationship spanning energy, luxury goods, and construction, with Dubai serving as a major hub for Italian exporters reaching wider Gulf and South Asian markets. The embassy's economic section supports bilateral trade promotion and business matchmaking between Emirati and Italian companies.
