Overview
The Embassy of Estonia in Rome is Estonia's diplomatic mission to Italy, processing visa applications for Italian residents and providing consular services to Estonian nationals in Italy.
Visa Services
As a Schengen member, Estonia follows standard Schengen visa policy. EU/EEA/Swiss citizens enter with an ID card or passport with no length-of-stay limit. Citizens of the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and many others can enter visa-free for tourist or business stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the whole Schengen area. Those needing a Schengen visa apply at an Estonian embassy or consulate with a completed form, photographs, travel itinerary, proof of accommodation, travel insurance (minimum €30,000 coverage), and proof of financial means; processing typically takes around 15 days. Note: Estonia's e-Residency programme provides a digital identity for running an online business but does NOT grant physical residence or travel rights in Estonia.
Consular Services
The embassy provides passport and travel document services, civil registration, document attestation and legalization, and emergency consular assistance for Estonian nationals in Italy.
Trade & Export Support
Estonia is internationally known for its digital-government sector — Skype's core engineering originated with Estonian developers — and the embassy's economic section supports bilateral trade promotion and IT/business matchmaking between Estonian and Italian companies.
