The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Rome is Iran's diplomatic mission to Italy, processing visa applications for Italian residents and providing consular services to Iranian nationals in Italy.
Visa Services
Iran requires a visa for nearly every nationality. The standard route is a two-step process: an online application via the Foreign Ministry's e-visa portal at evisa.mfa.ir for an authorisation code, followed by collecting the actual visa at an Iranian consulate abroad or at the visa desk on arrival at major airports (typically 30 days for most European, Latin American, East Asian, and Australasian nationalities, paid in cash in euros). US, UK, and Canadian citizens are a special case: they cannot use the visa-on-arrival route and must travel on a pre-arranged organised tour with a licensed Iranian tour operator providing an accompanying guide for the entire visit. Holders of an Israeli passport, or any passport bearing an Israeli entry/exit stamp, are refused entry. The passport must be valid at least 6 months from the entry date, and mandatory Iranian travel insurance covering medical care in Iran is required. Female travellers must be photographed wearing a headscarf for the visa application and wear one in public throughout the visit.
Consular Services
The embassy provides passport and travel document services, civil registration, document attestation and legalization, and emergency consular assistance for Iranian nationals in Italy.
