The Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Rome is Iraq's diplomatic mission to Italy, processing visa applications for Italian residents and providing consular services to Iraqi nationals in Italy.
Visa Services
Iraq operates two parallel visa regimes travellers should know about: a federal e-visa for entering federal Iraq, and a separate Kurdistan Region visa-on-arrival for entering Iraqi Kurdistan directly via Erbil (EBL) or Sulaymaniyah (ISU) airports. Federal Iraq launched its tourist e-visa in March 2021 — citizens of around 40 countries, including Italy, the rest of the EU, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, and Japan, can apply online at evisa.cabinet.iq before departure (typically 3-7 working days, single entry, 60 days). A federal visa on arrival is also available at Baghdad, Najaf, Basra, and Erbil for the same nationalities, paid in cash (USD or EUR). The Kurdistan Region runs its own separate regime: the same ~40 nationalities receive a 30-day visa on arrival at Erbil or Sulaymaniyah, valid only within the autonomous region — continuing into federal Iraq requires a separate federal visa at an internal border. The passport must be valid at least 6 months from entry. Holders of an Israeli passport or a passport bearing an Israeli stamp are refused entry to federal Iraq. There are no direct flights from Italy — usual connections run via Istanbul, Doha, Amman, or Dubai.

The embassy provides passport and travel document services, civil registration, document attestation and legalization, and emergency consular assistance for Iraqi nationals in Italy.
