Overview
The Embassy of the Republic of Malta in Berlin is Malta's diplomatic mission to the Federal Republic of Germany, located in the Tiergarten diplomatic quarter on Klingelhöferstraße. Ambassador Marlene Bonnici has headed the mission since presenting her credentials in January 2025. Malta and Germany maintain strong bilateral relations as fellow EU members, with Germany ranking among Malta's most important trading partners and one of the largest sources of tourists visiting the Maltese islands. Bilateral diplomatic relations were established in February 1965, and ties deepened considerably after Malta's EU accession in 2004. Germany is a key partner in manufacturing, trade, tourism, education, and culture. The embassy handles passport services, civil registration, voter registration abroad, and document legalisation for Maltese nationals across Germany.
Consular Services
The embassy provides full consular services to Maltese citizens in Germany: passport applications and renewals, civil registration (births, marriages, deaths), notarial services, document legalisation, and emergency consular assistance. As both Malta and Germany are EU and Schengen members, freedom of movement is guaranteed and no visa or work permit is required for Maltese nationals.
Service Area
The embassy covers the entire Federal Republic of Germany.
