Visa Services
North Korea operates exclusively through an authorised tour-operator visa system: there is no visa on arrival, no e-visa portal, and independent travel is not permitted. Every visit is booked in advance through an authorised operator, who manages the booking, submits the visa application at a DPRK consulate, and arranges the full package, including a fixed group itinerary, accommodation, internal transport, and the state guides who accompany the group throughout. The visa is typically issued as a separate paper visa slip rather than a passport stamp, often collected in Beijing the day before departure. Standard documentation is collected by the operator on the traveller's behalf: a passport valid at least six months beyond the planned departure date, application form and recent photo, and the operator's booking confirmation and itinerary. Republic of Korea (South Korean) passports are not admitted. Tourist access has varied in recent years between full closure, partial reopening to certain countries of origin, and broader reactivation, so anyone considering the trip should check current guidance from their own foreign ministry and confirm with the operator that tours are running before booking non-refundable flights.
