Overview
The Embassy of Romania in Rome is Romania's diplomatic mission to Italy, processing visa applications for Italian residents and providing consular services to Romanian nationals in Italy.
Visa Services
Romania has been an EU member since 2007 and a full Schengen member since 2025 (air and sea borders since March 31, 2024, land borders since 2025), so it applies the standard Schengen regime for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. EU/EEA/Swiss citizens enter freely under free movement; passports from the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and much of Latin America enter visa-free provided the passport meets Schengen rules (issued within the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen area). Visa-required passports apply for a Schengen visa at this embassy or the general consulates in Milan, Turin, Bologna, Trieste, and Venice — often via a VFS Global centre — with standard documentation: a completed Schengen form, a photo, a return ticket, proof of accommodation, travel insurance with at least €30,000 medical coverage valid across the Schengen area, proof of sufficient funds, and a consular fee.
Consular Services
The embassy provides passport and travel document services, civil registration, document attestation and legalization, and emergency consular assistance for Romanian nationals in Italy.

The embassy's economic section supports bilateral trade promotion and business matchmaking between Romanian and Italian companies.
