Russian Embassy in Vienna

Embassy of Russia in Vienna, Austria

Overview

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Vienna is Russia's principal diplomatic mission in Austria and handles consular, passport and other matters for Russian citizens living in or visiting the country. Its consular section takes appointments for visa, passport and legalisation matters.

Visa Services

Austrian nationals are eligible for Russia's unified electronic visa (e-visa), which is applied for online at evisa.kdmid.ru rather than in person at the embassy. For applications submitted from 23 August 2025 the e-visa allows a stay of up to 30 days and is valid for 120 days from issue; it is a single-entry visa valid across most of the Russian Federation — including Moscow and St. Petersburg — and does not require an invitation letter or hotel booking. Processing takes roughly four calendar days. Travellers who need longer stays, multiple entries or a visa category the e-visa does not cover apply for a traditional visa through the embassy's consular section, which generally requires an invitation or tourist voucher from a registered Russian host; requirements should always be confirmed on the embassy's official website before applying.

Consular Services

The consular section provides Russian citizens with passport issuance and renewal, citizenship matters, notarial acts, document legalisation and emergency assistance.

Service Area

The embassy's consular district covers Austria.

Appointment Information

Appointments are required. Current opening hours, the consular section's contact number and the booking procedure are published on the embassy's official website.

Special Notes

Vienna also hosts Russia's separate Permanent Mission to the international organisations based in the city (including the OSCE and the IAEA), a distinct diplomatic function from this bilateral embassy. As with any international trip, travellers should check their own government's current travel advice before booking.
