Overview
The Embassy of San Marino in Rome is San Marino's diplomatic mission to Italy, processing visa applications for Italian residents and providing consular services to Sammarinese nationals in Italy.
Visa Services
San Marino has no visa system or border customs controls of its own. Entry is exclusively through Italy, with which San Marino maintains a fully open border. Being legally present in Italy is sufficient to visit San Marino. EU/EEA/Swiss citizens — including all Italian citizens — enter freely with a valid passport or ID card (Schengen free movement, no length-of-stay limit). Citizens of around 60 visa-exempt countries (the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, Japan, and others) can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen area; time spent in San Marino counts toward this limit. Visa-required citizens must obtain a Schengen visa from an Italian embassy (or another Schengen state). There are no border checks crossing between Italy and San Marino.
Consular Services
The embassy provides passport and travel document services, civil registration, document attestation and legalization, and emergency consular assistance for Sammarinese nationals in Italy.
