Overview
The Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Vienna is Slovakia's diplomatic mission in Austria. Because both countries are EU and Schengen members, Austrian citizens travel to Slovakia visa-free, so the embassy's main workload is consular support for the Slovak community in Austria — a neighbouring country with extensive cross-border commuting and family ties — and bilateral relations across trade and EU affairs.
Visa Services
Austrian nationals do not need a visa to visit Slovakia, as both countries are Schengen members with full freedom of movement. Third-country nationals legally resident in Austria who need a Schengen visa specifically for Slovakia — for business, family visits or study — apply through the embassy using the standard Schengen documentation: valid passport, application form, recent photograph, travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 across the Schengen Area, and proof of sufficient funds.
Consular Services
The embassy provides passport applications and renewals, civil-registration services, notarial services and emergency assistance for Slovak nationals resident in or travelling through Austria.
Trade & Export Support
Slovakia and Austria maintain a close trade relationship as neighbouring EU members, with Austrian companies present across Slovakia's banking, retail and manufacturing sectors, and Slovak exports to Austria including automotive components and machinery. The embassy supports bilateral trade missions and business introductions between the two economies.
