Frequently asked questions
No — Switzerland applies Schengen rules, so Italian citizens enter on a national ID card with no visa, whether commuting to Ticino or moving for work under the free-movement agreements. Visa questions only arise for non-EU residents of Italy, handled by roma.visti@eda.admin.ch by appointment.
Write to the desk that owns your matter: roma.consolato@eda.admin.ch for consular business — passports, registrations, civil status — or roma.visti@eda.admin.ch for visas. Both desks receive by appointment only; there is no walk-in counter at Via Barnaba Oriani 61.
Three mailboxes, split by task: roma@eda.admin.ch for general embassy matters, roma.consolato@eda.admin.ch for the consular section, roma.visti@eda.admin.ch for visas — plus swiss-contribution@sem.admin.ch for Swiss-cooperation programmes. The switchboard is +39 06 809 571.
