Overview

The Embassy of New Zealand in Vienna is New Zealand's diplomatic mission in Austria, housed in the ICON Vienna tower near the Wiedner Gürtel. It supports New Zealand citizens travelling in or resident in Austria, promotes trade and cultural ties between the two countries, and represents New Zealand's interests to Austrian authorities and international organisations headquartered in Vienna.

Visa Services

Austrian citizens do not need a visa for short tourist or business visits to New Zealand but must obtain a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) online before travel, along with the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL). The NZeTA is valid for two years for multiple entries of up to 90 days per visit and is applied for at nzeta.immigration.govt.nz — not through the embassy. Longer stays, work visas and residence applications are processed by Immigration New Zealand, generally handled online or through the visa application centre serving Austria rather than at the embassy counter directly.

Consular Services

The embassy assists New Zealand citizens in Austria with passport applications and renewals, emergency travel documents, notarial services, and support in cases of emergency, hospitalisation or detention. New Zealanders travelling to or living in Austria are encouraged to register with SafeTravel so the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade can reach them in a crisis.

Trade & Export Support

New Zealand and Austria maintain a modest but active trade relationship, with New Zealand exports to Austria concentrated in agricultural products, wine and specialty foods, and Austrian exports to New Zealand in machinery, engineering equipment and skiing and outdoor-sports goods. The embassy supports New Zealand exporters and trade delegations engaging with Austrian and wider EU markets.

Appointment Information
