Overview
The Embassy of Luxembourg in Rome is Luxembourg's diplomatic mission to Italy, processing visa applications for Italian residents and providing consular services to Luxembourgish nationals in Italy.
Visa Services
Luxembourg is a founding member of the Schengen area — Italian citizens need only an ID card or passport, the currency is the euro, and there is no roaming cost. Citizens of around 60 exempt countries — the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea among others — can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the whole Schengen area, not just Luxembourg. Other nationalities need a Schengen visa from a Luxembourgish embassy or consulate, or another Schengen mission representing Luxembourg. Standard documents: a passport valid at least 3 months beyond the planned exit date, travel medical insurance with at least €30,000 coverage, a return ticket, and proof of accommodation and funds. Historical note: the Schengen Agreement was signed in 1985 in the Luxembourgish village of Schengen, on the banks of the Moselle.
Consular Services
The embassy provides passport and travel document services, civil registration, document attestation and legalization, and emergency consular assistance for Luxembourgish nationals in Italy.
Trade & Export Support
The embassy's economic section supports bilateral trade promotion and business matchmaking between Luxembourgish and Italian companies, including Luxembourg's role as a major European financial-services hub.
